About The Aliveness Project

Everyone should have the opportunity to lead a healthy, self-directed life, and people living with HIV should not feel stuck, isolated, or stigmatized.

The Aliveness Project was founded as a community center for and driven by people living with HIV. For over 30 years, we have been facilitating connection to community, offering nutrition & wellness services, and linking our members to resources to lead fulfilling & healthy lives.

Meals & Food Shelf

Our  Dining Room is the heart of our community. Hot, scratch-cooked meals are available six days a week and specifically prepared to benefit people living with HIV.

Our Food Shelf is open four days a week and members can visit monthly and select up to 60 pounds of groceries.

Integrative Therapy

Useful therapies such as

Chiropractic Care
Talk Therapy

Provided to members at no cost in a clean, comfortable space where members can relax and receive the full benefits of these therapies.

Nutritional Therapy

Full-time dietitian who specializes in HIV related nutrition needs offering:

Body composition analysis
Nutrition coaching
Linkage to state nutrition programs
Menu planning and creation of shopping lists
Care coordination with other health care professionals

Case Management

Linking members to resources to restore or sustain stability including:

Medication assistance
Health insurance and benefits
Housing resources
Sex/HIV education
Chemical use and mental health resources

Member Services

Maximizing the member experience and helping members connect to community through:

Free tickets to cultural and sporting events
Fun and educational activities at the community center

Get tested to find out if you are living with HIV. Aliveness offers testing during regular business hours.

Support or Volunteer

We have an active, large family of supporters at The Aliveness Project. Many of our supporters do some or all of the following:

  • Raise funds through Dining Out For Life and other events
  • Volunteer at our community center
  • Raise awareness about HIV/AIDS
  • Advocate at the local, state, and national level

Upcoming Events

Chiropractic Available for Members
Dec 18 all-day

Members, call the Front Desk at (612) 822-7946 to inquire about times for a chiropractic adjustment. Available first come, first serve on the first and third Mondays of the month from 1-3 pm.

LUNCH: Chicken Paprikash (chicken in cream sauce over egg noodles)
Dec 18 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Meals are free for members, no reservation required. Each meal features a nutritious entrée, salad bar, soup, beverages and dessert. Children under 12 may eat free when accompanied by a parent who is a member.

Harm Reduction/Recovery Meeting
Dec 18 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Eric Clemensen, our new drug and alcohol counselor from HCMC, will be facilitating a support group focused on harm reduction and recovery. Please note that this is open to members who are sober OR using and trying to be safer. This is for Aliveness members only.

“Unidos Somos Mas” Group
Dec 18 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Any Aliveness members who are comfortable in Spanish may attend “Unidos Somos Mas,” a Spanish-language social support group. For December, the meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 18 at 4 pm, however, starting in January 2018, the group will meet the 3rd Saturday of the month over brunch. Todos son bienvenidos!

DINNER: Tamales (Mexican corn dough with filling steamed in corn husk)

MAC Meeting
Dec 18 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

The Membership Advisory Committee (MAC) is a group of Aliveness members that have stepped forward in a leadership capacity. MAC members are expected to attend monthly meetings to offer feedback on Aliveness policies and operation, as well as volunteer for special events.

To participate in the MAC, you must be a member of The Aliveness Project, complete and submit a MAC application to the Front Desk, and be voted in by the existing council.

Talk Therapy for Members
Dec 19 all-day

Members, licensed psychologist Kathy Vader is available Tuesday afternoons for talk therapy by appointment. She is a great listener! Call the Front Desk at (612) 822-7946 to sign up.

Members, do you go to HCMC? If so, you may qualify to take a survey and receive a giftcard! Check in with Thu over lunch on Fridays or over dinner on Tuesdays.
