March is Minnesota FoodShare Month

The Aliveness Project Food Shelf is excited to be participating in Minnesota FoodShare‘s March Campaign again this year. Minnesota FoodShare is a program of Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches (GMCC) that aims to address poverty and food insecurity through involving thousands of Minnesotans in advocacy, education, and awareness efforts. Every year, people come together to stock nearly 300 food shelves statewide and we will be working with the community to raise food and money to support Aliveness’ Food Shelf.

Ways to support Aliveness’ efforts for the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign:

  • Visit The Wedge at 2105 Lyndale Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55405 on Saturday, March 24 from 10-6 pm and purchase donations to give to our Aliveness staff and volunteers at this onsite food drive!
  • Host a food drive with your family, friends, church, or coworkers! To host a food drive please contact Events & Projects Manager Ayrie Gomez at 612-822-7946 ext. 207 or [email protected] for more information and print materials. Learn more about hosting a drive here.
  • Make a monetary donation online or by calling 612-822-7946.
  • Spread awareness about Minnesota’s current food insecurity status with your friends and family. Check out Minnesota FoodShare’s Hunger Facts here.

March is also National Nutrition Month, a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This month focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. This year’s theme focuses on tips to help us all “Go Further with Food”, such as being mindful of portion sizes, using good food safety practices, considering the foods you have on hand before grocery shopping, and buying only the amount that can be eaten or frozen within a few days and planning ways to use leftovers later in the week. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, celebrated on the second Wednesday in March, increases awareness of registered dietitians as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and recognizes RDNs for their commitment to helping people live healthy, self-directed lives. Members can schedule an appointment with Arissa by calling the front desk or contacting her directly at 612-822-7946 ext. 217 or [email protected].
